Mickey's Diner

I went shooting with Terry Z a few weeks ago. Terry is really sweet and very very patient with me. He makes for a good teacher. He is also a great photographer when it comes to the technical stuff . He loves HDR so this is my first attempt at HDR. It is probably more surreal than I would like but I think it came out ok. Critiques are welcome.

If it looks a little crooked I think that is the street. I did straighten and try to square it.

Thanks for looking.

Critque eh?
Well its like this Diane, does it match the "vision" that you had before you made the HDR, that is the most important question. If it does then you can be happy and satisfied, if it does not then you have to question what you might have changed to get the result you were looking for. HDR images are capable of being made in many different styles from the photorealistic, to the overtly artistic.
These days I prefer a contrasty picture for my own tastes and I have moved (over the years) towards the more realistic end of the scale, I achieve my results by going back into Photoshop to add a curves adjustment layer , and often some dodging and burning to really emphasise light and contrasting shade.
Now and then I like to make an image (like yours) which gives more freedom of expression and artistic licence, it very much depends upon the subject material, the predominant colours, and the condition of the sky.
It's all "horses for courses" and we all eventually find a style that we are happy with. The biggest satisfaction comes from learning a technique that you are comfortable with and can "wear" for the next few years.

Keep shooting and keep experimenting. :-)

Oh btw, I've seen many many far worse first attempts.
